Phew! I wouldn’t know where to start if you asked me what it feels like for The Morning Context to turn one. Except to say thank you. Thank you so much for reading us. Thank you so much for being on this journey with us, which has been incredibly special.

As much as turning one is a milestone, it is as good a day as any to remind ourselves that everything that we’ve put together, toiling day after day is to serve just one person: you, the reader. And we are never going to take you for granted.

Sometimes when the team and I sit back and think about TMC, we are like wow, we couldn’t have asked for a more challenging time to start, could we. New digital media company meets subscription journalism, which then meets the most challenging media environment there is, which then runs into the world’s worst pandemic we’ve ever known. An event that has thrown all plans of love, hate, ambition, forgiveness and loss out of gear, leaving us feeling only human. But well, here we are, all grown up.

In the last year, we published more than 250 stories; we’d promised only 150 when we started. Plus, what began with a core team of five journalists and non-journalists, we are now a team of 11 full-time journalists + 4 contributors spread all over the world, putting out five long reads and two newsletters every week.

We’ve been adding paying subscribers by the hundreds every week, and couldn’t be more proud of our journalism, and that you choose to support us.

This celebration will last a while and we have a lot of things planned for you. From events with the editorial team to special offers, and some more editorial fun, The Morning Context is just getting started.

The Morning Context has raised money from a clutch of investors, entirely in their personal capacity. It is quite likely that some of them may be directly or indirectly involved in a competing line of business similar to the companies we write about. Our full list of investors is here
