MIT study suggests ChatGPT is draining our brains. What’s the truth?

Earlier this month, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology released a preprint research paper that suggests that using large language models like ChatGPT comes at a cognitive cost. While the research could have important implications for the use of artificial intelligence, its results are not set in stone. 

The study divided participants into three groups: one used ChatGPT, the other relied on a search engine and the third used neither tools. All three groups were made to write essays while researchers recorded their brain activity using electroencephalography (EEG).
