Most petrol pumps across India today offer petrol blended with 20% ethanol, which can damage your vehicle if it is not compatible.
The Indian government’s push to blend more and more ethanol with petrol has fuelled concerns in the insurance sector. Some insurers have said they may not cover damages to vehicles that are operating on E20 petrol despite not being compatible with the fuel. E20 petrol consists of 80% petrol and 20% ethanol.
Now, the idea behind ethanol blending is to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Unlike petrol though, ethanol is soluble in water.
