The telecom regulator’s new rules to battle spam calls and messages has telecom companies all riled up.
Last week, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India amended the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2018, to provide stronger protection against spam.
In response, an industry body of telecom operators lambasted the amendments. One of their key gripes was that over-the-top (OTT) communication service providers such as WhatsApp and Telegram are not included within the ambit of the rules.
