India stands to lose electronics manufacturing opportunity to Vietnam

There is little incentive to manufacture in India for export apart from those provided by the government.

Samsung’s exports of smartphones from India reduced by almost a fifth year-on-year in the first quarter of FY26, attributed to the South Korean company no longer being eligible for benefits under the smartphone production-linked incentive scheme since April—it had exhausted its five-year term. Losing its PLI means that the company has lost export competitiveness in India and the same could happen to others like Foxconn and Dixon Technologies—who also benefit from the scheme.
