Both regulators have amped up the heat on MDH and Everest after some of their products were flagged overseas for their pesticide content.
Masalagate has the Indian government in a flutter. On Tuesday, the country’s Spices Board directed MDH and Everest to share details of the quality checks they conduct on their masalas.
The action comes after Hong Kong’s Centre for Food Safety, earlier this month, halted sales of three MDH spice blends and an Everest spice mix for fish curry for allegedly containing high levels of a cancer-causing pesticide. Singapore has also ordered the recall of the Everest spice mix and advised against its consumption.
