Plea filed in SC seeking medical panel to look into Covishield risk factors

This development follows AstraZeneca admitting that its COVID-19 vaccine could cause blood clot-related side effects in ‘very rare’ cases.

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the formation of a panel—comprising medical experts from AIIMS, Delhi—to examine the potential side-effects and risk factors of the Covishield vaccine.

Filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari, the petition also calls for the implementation of a compensation system for individuals “who got severely disabled as a result of a vaccination drive” during the COVID-19 pandemic. Separately, the plea also seeks compensation for people who “are severely disabled or died because of the side effects” of the vaccine.
