Editor's note: Jet Airways CEO designate Sanjiv Kapoor has resigned, reinforcing the belief that the revival of the erstwhile full-service airline now looks improbable. “Today is his last working day,” says a senior executive from within the airline, asking not to be named. The Jalan-Kalrock consortium, which had won the bid to revive the carrier, released a statement on Friday confirming the resignation. It also said a new CEO will be appointed shortly. Kapoor’s resignation comes just a few days after the airline’s accountable manager, P.P. Singh, also put in his papers. The exit of the top two executives is a sign that the tussle between the airline’s lenders and the Jalan-Kalrock consortium continues without a solution in sight. Kapoor, an industry veteran who had stints in SpiceJet and Vistara, had joined Jet Airways in April 2022 in what was seen as a significant step towards restarting the airline.
