Editor's note: Furniture rental company RentoMojo has detected a data breach that involves unauthorized access to one of its databases, according to an email shared by the company with its subscribers on Thursday morning. The startup, which claims to have more than 100,000 subscribers, said an investigation was underway. “Upon becoming aware of the breach, we immediately initiated an investigation and engaged leading cybersecurity and legal experts to assist us,” the company said in the email. It added that hackers had access to its customers’ personal data. “It appears that the attackers were able to get unauthorized access to our customer data, including in some cases personally identifiable information by exploiting the cloud misconfiguration through extremely sophisticated attacks, thus breaching one of our databases,” it said. “We assure you that this has no impact on any financial information like credit cards, debit cards or UPI as we never store them in our database.” On 19 April, several subscribers of the Bengaluru-based startup were first alerted to the breach by the alleged perpetrators.
