India’s Men’s T20 World Cup squad defy IPL trend of bat vs bat

IPL 2024 is all about hitting boundaries and strike rates, but the Indian team announced in the middle of the tournament for the T20 World Cup in June doesn’t feature many top performers.

I don’t know how many sixes have been hit during the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League, which is into its 52nd game (Royal Challengers Bengaluru versus Gujarat Titans) as I write this. Fours are so yesterday—no one even counts them anymore.

There have been 31 scores in excess of 200. There have been six scores of 199, at least a couple of which would have been added to the 200 column, except that the batting side ran out of runs to chase. There have been 12 games in which both sides have scored over 200. And there …
