A good hit by SEBI, but…

The latest order on Zee Business guest experts is well called. Nevertheless, it exposes SEBI’s limited definition of research analysts and unpublished market information.

I wonder often if you can ever get a perfect regulator. 

This question has come to me several times over the years after reading orders of the Securities and Exchange Board of India. To say that SEBI has been inconsistent with its orders would sound extreme—but it can’t be disputed that it has ever so often been too far away from serving the right punishment. We have written that SEBI hasn’t been able to tackle the big fish easily or has used the sledgehammer against the small fry.
