The billionaire, along with other executives, has been indicted in a New York court for allegedly bribing Indian officials to obtain solar contracts and hiding it from US banks and investors.
Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, along with seven other senior business executives has been charged by US prosecutors in connection with an alleged multimillion dollar bribery scheme, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.
According to the indictment, which The Morning Context has seen, Adani and two other executives at his renewable firm Adani Green Energy--his nephew and executive director Sagar Adani, and managing director Vneet S. Jain– allegedly agreed to pay over $250 million in bribes to Indian government officials for obtaining "lucrative solar energy supply contracts" between 2020 and 2024.
