Day 1 of Mohammed bin Salman’s US visit opened with a bang. The Saudi crown prince pledged “almost $1 trillion” in new investments—an eye-popping jump from the $600 billion announced during President Trump’s trip to the kingdom in May.
With that single line, the crown prince set the pace for everything that followed. Trump, offering a lavish welcome, rolled out a suite of high-value concessions: fighter jets, AI chips, nuclear cooperation and a deeper partnership in the defence industry. Most notably, he granted Saudi Arabia major non-NATO ally status—something unimaginable not long ago.
