Naresh Trehan’s Medanta has its heart set on Delhi

After successfully tapping smaller cities, the cardiac surgeon-helmed hospital chain is looking to expand its NCR footprint. Can it bypass the competition?

Last December, Dr Naresh Trehan made headlines when he figured on the list of Indian billionaires. Three months on, his net worth hit $1.6 billion, making him the country’s wealthiest practising doctor. Much of that wealth derives from his stake in Global Health Ltd, or Medanta as it is commonly known. 

Medanta set up The Medicity, India’s first large-scale, super-speciality, single-location private hospital at Gurugram, which remains the flagship. As its founder, chairman, managing director and chief cardiac surgeon, Trehan remains the driving force behind a corporate hospital chain that opted not to take the conventional path to growth.  …
