Salesforce’s founder just can’t seem to let go
The departure of co-CEO Bret Taylor is Marc Benioff’s second failed attempt at sharing leadership of the software company.

Editor's note: A few days ago, along with its quarterly earnings, Salesforce announced that its co-CEO Bret Taylor will step down and founder Marc Benioff will become the company’s sole chief executive. Taylor is arguably one of the most prolific innovators and executives of the tech industry—creating notable products in the past and founding startups that were sold for hundreds of millions of dollars. He is credited with co-creating Google Maps at Google where he was a product manager. After his stint at Google, Taylor founded FriendFeed, a social media network that aggregated feeds from different social media platforms, with three other former Google employees. He was the CEO of FriendFeed until the company was acquired by Facebook. In case you didn’t know, Facebook adopted the “like” button—often credited to Taylor—from FriendFeed. After the acquisition, Taylor went to become the chief technology officer at Facebook. In 2012, Taylor left Facebook to found Quip, a Google Docs competitor.
