Editor's note: I am wondering which side of the bed Tencent woke up on today. The side where its popular gaming app, PUBG, got banned in India, or the other where its investment in India’s music streaming platform Gaana sailed through without much hullabaloo. On an inexplicable day like this, I can’t help but wonder where we stand. We are promised ease of doing business and instead suffer an arbitrary doorman who can’t quite decide who to let in. Speaking of letting in, like I had said a couple of weeks ago, Cred’s Indian Premier League sponsorship has come through. So, there goes Rs 40 crore of the company’s money, on cricket. This is an interesting development. Cred started out rewarding people for being rich and is now spending investors’ money on cricket, which is more of a mass sport played by people who aren’t very rich. I personally believe there is no harm building a product for the masses and if Cred goes down that path, it should be interesting to see what Kunal Shah can conjure up. On to our …
