India crashed out in the league phase of the T20 World Cup hosted in the UAE—to the surprise of absolutely no one who was paying attention to the squad selection, and to the selection of the playing XI for key games. Virat Kohli officially handed over the T20 captaincy; the selectors somewhat belatedly put their official imprimatur to Rohit Sharma’s elevation after the coach, captain and sundry others had declared it a fait accompli; coach Ravi Shastri finally came to the end of his tenure and Rahul Dravid took over as team coach… Dravid accepting the role came as a bit of a surprise, because he has thus far opted out of having to deal with the outsized egos in the national team.
